Scholarships and other opportunities while in High School

Megan Vogel Scholarship

The Ballard High School Maritime Academy steering committee is honoring the memory and legacy of an influential teacher and leader, Megan Vogel. Megan was passionate about students challenging themselves to be better than their best and to be open to learning opportunities found outside of the classroom. To honor her spirit we have set up a scholarship fund for BMA students in need.

The scholarship will provide financial assistance for BMA students seeking to earn UW credit or participate in an educational experience beyond the classroom. During the fall of 2014 scholarship applications will be requested specifically for UW credit in a UW in the high school course. If funds allow, in the spring of 2015 we will host another application drive, for funding out of classroom education experiences. Scholarship will cover no more than 50% of activity. Number of scholarships will be dependent on amount of scholarship funds available per school year.

Applications are due to Noam Gundle, Oceanography instructor, by October 6th, 2014. Application consists of filling out application form and a 500 word essay describing financial need and how the scholarship will further the students personal and career goals. See application for more details:  BHS maritime Scholar Application 2014
